There is quite simply an overwhelming amount of resources related to Autism.  This is a good problem to have no doubt, but if you simply type the word Autism in Google there are 15,400,000 results.  I've chosen to list a few resources here* that have been valuable for our journey with our son.  These are not paid advertisements.  I have listed each resource along with an explanation of how the company/item was helpful.

Missouri Families for Effective Autism Treatment

I actually met the director, Anne Roux, during an Autism 101 seminar held at our local Washington University campus.  This was last spring when we had our suspicions, but no official diagnosis.  I sat in this huge crowd and felt beyond overwhelmed.  I left early, and I don't really remember how or why I started talking to Anne, but she was this breath of fresh air that I needed at the end of the evening.  She was compassionate, and has probably heard the same story from countless parents but listened patiently as I talked about my son and how I saw so many signs.  She let me know about her organization and how they provided support to families in Missouri.  She took down my name and number and promised to send a Resource Directory.  I received the Resource Directory a short time later and was amazed at the breadth of information!!  This gave me my starting point, it got me out of panic mode and into action mode.  I seriously still use the directory to this day.  MO-FEAT provides this resource free of charge (but they are not-for-profit so donations are certainly appreciated).  Please check them out!

Okay, so what does a photographer have to do with Autism?  Well, nothing...except THIS photographer took amazing pictures of my son...my son who does not pose for pictures or sit still.  For 2 years, I left studios in tears.  Oh, I have some good pictures from these adventures, but only after some blood-sweat-and tears were shed.  We have gorgeous pictures from Donnell AND we all had fun!  I have seen pictures when the client gives her full creative license and they are simply breathtaking (I wasn't that bold, but promise to be next time :) ).  She loves taking different urban style shots.  If you are in the St. Louis area, and want some really unique photographs and a fun shoot, give her a call.
